Our vision for the Alumni Small Grants Fund is to channel alumni fundraising directly into International Service’s in-country projects, to help make a positive and lasting difference.

By awarding small grants of up to £250, to international development volunteering projects in which International Service volunteers are participating, we hope that we will be able to enhance the work of project partners, help them to fulfil their goals, as well as bringing benefits to the wider community.

On Friday 24 January, after months of planning and preparation, we held the official launch of the Small Grants Fund at the Mansion House in York. Hosted by the Lord Mayor of York, Julie Gunnell, and attended by International Service staff, country directors from Palestine, Ghana, Burkina Faso and Bolivia, members of the ICS hub, the local press (read York Press coverage here) as well as local companies and supporters, the launch event was a great success.

At the launch, Dot (Chair) and Josh shared the journey of the Alumni Board from its creation in March 2013, and our vision behind launching the fund. We also raised over £150 towards the Small Grants Fund through selling hand-made produce from Burkina Faso and holding a raffle, so we’d like to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone for their support! We look forward to sharing updates with you on the progress of the fund following the first round of applications.
